Porsche 918 Spyder

This past year’s Geneva Motor Show was all abuzz with the unveiling of the Porsche 918 Spyder Concept, a vehicle that, once it hit production, would be the successor for the Carrera GT. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long to receive confirmation that this concept would indeed be hitting the production block, and now we get to have a look at the first step to seeing the Spyder in its full form with this image of the first scale clay model.

Once that clay model turns into something a little less arts and crafts and a lot more mind-bendingly powerful, Porsche has announced that they will be investing around 150 million euros in a high-tech wind tunnel, that will help "to maintain Porsche’s top position in the fields of aerodynamics and design and to further extend our lead."

In a previous statement Porsche announced that the production version will deliver more power than the concept. Michael Macht, President and Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG said: "Production of the 918 Spyder in a limited series proves that we are taking the right approach with Porsche Intelligent Performance featuring the combination of supreme performance and efficient drivetrain concepts. We will develop the 918 Spyder in Weissach and assemble it in Zuffenhausen. This is also a very important commitment to Germany as a manufacturing base."

UPDATE 03/21/2011: Order books are now open for the production 918 Spyder. According to Porsche, their plug-in hybrid sports car will be priced at 645,000 Euro in Europe and $845,000 in the U.S. There will only be 918 units produced.

UPDATE 05/15/2011: Porsche opened up the order books for the production 918 Spyder back in March, and now, less than two months later, all 918 units have already been spoken for. For those who were lucky enough to snag one, production will begin on September 18, 2013. Still a long ways away, but more than likely, it will be worth the wait.

Read more about the production version of the Porsche 918 Spyder and the tedious ordering process it takes to buy one after the jump.

Murdoch and Mubadala

A few months ago there were clear signs that Bernie Ecclestone was in discussions with the Abu Dhabi government about a possible deal for it to buy into the Formula One group. This made a lot of sense. Such a move would have provided the sport with ownership that had more money than it knows [...]

1970 Duster WIP

A few completed parts for a 1970 Duster I am working on along with a few others. I am still trying to decide on an exterior color so any suggestions are welcome. But since I already have the interior brown/tan, that may limit the exterior colors options a little.

A few better pictures to hopefully come soon.

My review of the first three races of 2011

Two wins for Sebastian Vettel in the flying Red Bull, a superb recovery from pre-season problems for McLaren culminating in a stunning victory for Lewis Hamilton in China, Ferrari struggling, impressive pace from Renault and debutant Paul di Resta, and signs of a resurgence for Mercedes.

What models WOULDN'T you want to see issued? Let's turn the tables and have some fun!

Ahh, the Holidays are upon us and for a bit of merryment, I thought I'd turn the tables a bit...everyone posts a new topic every week or so about 'What they want to see brought out' but I say let's turn it around a bit...what DON'T you want to see released or re-released! Maybe some subject that you think is over represented? Or something that has met it's tooling run? How about something that's a dog, but could be rectified with a little re-engineering?
1) Any MOPAR with another HEMI! They built other engines ya know!
2) Any kit that's JUST a lowrider or donk...put stock parts in it too! 2 in 1!
3) I'll take the new Revell 57 150 when it comes out...but after that, we don't need any other 'Tri Fives!' Gee, how about a 66! (or a mid 50s Caddy/Buick!)
4) Another 69 Dukes Charger-another one done to death!

Let's continue this...but be nice and be in the Holiday spirit! No slamming or bad mouthing please!
-Mike
