Porsche has already proven they can have a killer hybrid sports car with the918 Spyder Concept, so why not try using a hybrid system in a production sports car? A Porsche 911/991 prototype was recently caught testing sporting a few details that would lead us to believe it was a hybrid version of the future generation Porsche 911.
This particular prototype features extra devices attached to the brakes, most likely placed there in order to measure regenerative effects. The rear hood was enlarged and vented, and the side vent was just a stick-on decal.
Porsche already offers a hybrid system for the Panamera and the Cayenne, so the idea of the 991 also carrying a hybrid engine isn’t all that far-fetched. In these two models, the hybrid system combines a 3.0 liter V6 engine with an output of 333 HP with a 34 Kw (47 HP) electric motor. The electric motor gets its power from a nickel metal hydride battery (NiMh) where the electrical energy recovered from braking and driving is stored.

Renault: Heidfeld already leading team By Dieter Rencken and Matt Beer Sunday, February 27th 2011, 10:59 GMT Renault team boss Eric Boullier says it was obvious from Nick Heidfeld's first few laps in the car that he was the man the squad needed to lead its 2011 charge in the absence of the injured Robert Kubica. Heidfeld will fill in alongside Vitaly Petrov at Renault until Kubica recovers from the multiple injuries he suffered in a rally crash three weeks ago. The German had a test audition for Renault before being snapped up, and Boullier said he was very impressed by the way Heidfeld immediately took charge. Jaguar is celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of its most iconic models, the E-Type, this year. So to commemorate this occasion, the British automaker has released a new Spain-exclusive, limited-run Jaguar XK ?Spring Edition?, complete with a myriad of aesthetic upgrades on both the exterior and interior of the car.
While we completely dig all the styling improvements that were made for the Spring Edition XK, we’re a little bothered because the car is only being sold in Spain, which means that unless we can have one imported to the US, then we’re going to have trouble getting this unique Jaguar XK model.
Having said that, the Jaguar XK is still one fine piece of machinery, regardless if it comes with special trims or not. We admit to having once lost some affinity for the Big Car in the past, but with their slew of newer and more recent models, including the XK Coupe and Convertible, our approval rating for this British automaker is steadily rising back to its former stature as one of Europe’s finest.
Details on the Jaguar XK Spring Edition after the jump.
